GROU P 6: Behind the Scenes
Ricky, Suzanne, Mabel, Jenny, Allahva

Arthur Miller wrote this play because Miller was blacklisted by Hollywood when he refused to testify in front of the HUAC. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible as a comment on the HUAC trials of the 1950s.In both trials innocent people were jailed and reputations were destroyed.

The title of the play means a severe test or trial and that was what the HUAC trials and the Salem Witch Trials were, a severe test or trial. The similarities between the HUAC trials and the Salem Witch Trials is that the HUAC trials were a crucible and the Salem Witch Trials were also a crucible.
In both trials, they would blame others without proof and these people were blamed for things they did not do. They were either forced to plead guilty or be killed. That is the reasons why both trials were considered to be crucibles.
