Basic HTML Authoring Skills

1. Create a new file,
save the file and name it “yourname.htm”
i.e. "john.htm"

Using
the menu bar go: File, New, Blank
Page,
File, Save |

2. Select
Heading 1 and type your title
enter
|
use dropdown menu
|

3. Select
Heading 2 and type your name and school
enter
|
Use the same menu as above
|
|
4. Type
your text.
If you are so inclined, use the spell check. |
You can use the editor
just like a word processor.
You may use these buttons
to format your text.

Preview your work in the
web browser, choose “okay” when prompted to save your work.
To return to editing your
page, click file, edit page.
5. Choose the color of your background and text you want to use. Click on the “colors and background tab.” You will see the grid on the right appear when you click on each type of text. Just click the box of the color you want and see the effect in the preview window. WARNING! If you use a white font for text with a dark background it may not be printable (since new browsers don't print the background color, you will be left with white text on white paper). To save colors, click apply and ok. |
Go to: Format, Page Colors & Properties Under the “General Tab” enter the title, your name for author, a brief description and a handful of keywords for the search engines to index your page.

| 6. Link your e-mail address to your name:
highlight your name with the mouse, click on the link button and enter: mailto:youremailaddress i.e. mailto:jelfrank@teachnet.org

7. Publish to your web space on the Internet using these parameters, by clicking on the publish button (see right) and entering this information. Location to publish: FTP://209.35.162.165/yourweb Miami teachers click here to review your publishing information Chicago teachers click here to review your publishing information User Name: your username Password: your password New York City teachers: Yourweb is one of the below: fklane mbhs ps101 ps88 is24 unhs |
Once you get the message that the upload was successful, click on the preview button and type in the address: http://www.TeachNet-lab.org/yourweb/yourfilename.htm
You can now view your page as it appears on the web. |
