LESSON II - INCORPORATING VISUAL ART

Students will sketch the piece they chose from their Internet research.

THE PAINTING PROCEDURE

1) Students create their own "pulp paper" by soaking

commercial brown paper in water, squeezing out all the

chemicals and allowing the paper to dry with a

wrinkled texture, closely resembling actual tree bark,

or pulp paper.

2) Students transfer their drawing onto the pulp

paper.

3) Students will use their color print to recreate the

color scheme of the piece with tempera paints. Next,

students will use black markers to outline the shapes

in their artwork. Some students decided to create

striking nature-inspired borders of plant life and animal

patterns and painted them with tempera paints.

TIP: If you can work in conjunction with the art

teacher please do.

SCANNING IN THE ARTWORK

1) Students scan in their artwork.

2) Students print out one color print

of the original artwork if color printer is available.  These can then be used to

create classroom or hallway bulletin boards.
