LESSON IV - PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER IN POWERPOINT
Students will work on an individual PowerPoint presentation (See AfricanArt.pdf.)
1) Students will extend their investigation by gathering information about the tribe who created their piece of art.
Here are some good sites to research the tribes: http://www.uiowa.edu/~africart/toc/people.html http://www.kcls.org/hh/africantribes.cfm
2) They will include a map of Africa and include a description of the country and region in Africa they are referencing in their presentation. They can use www.google.com and click on Images before typing in the name of the image. Downloading is as easy as dragging the image into the PowerPoint presentation slide. 3) Presentations will be shown to the class. Teacher can evaluate student work using this rubric.
**Student work samples:
EXTENSION ACTIVITY: AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR CONNECTION
Background
info: Scholastic: Chris Van Allsburg's Biography I also like the quote on this page: http://www.eduplace.com/author/vanallsburg/
Chris Van Allsberg always draws the pictures before he writes the story. Now that the students know about the piece by researching it on the Internet, they can extend it by using the object as the focus of a story. Students can include the elements of characterization, setting, plot and movement through time.
