GENRE STUDY: AN EXPOSE

OVERVIEW

Overview Project Guidelines Assessment Criteria Genre List Checklist
Persuasive Essay Format Test Format Biography Outline Resources Student Work

The prerequisite for this genre study project is to have completed the Author Study project (as preparation) due to the nature of the project. The students must read 4 books of the same genre written by different authors. They will also be divided into groups of two or three and each group will maintain a folder for the project parts that will be checked by the teacher during the "meeting" time. Time allotment is approximately three months, and the attached due date chart must be followed as directed by the teacher. When the project parts are completed, the group receives permission to transfer their work up onto the tri-board.

Students are encouraged to word process their project materials and they are required to do research using the Internet. Additional project enhancements include the use of images and pictures retrieved from the Internet.

This project was designed for a basic skills/average seventh grade English Language Arts class. These students needed an incentive to read as well as a vehicle to display their abilities in a positive and productive manner. However, this project can be “scaled down” for younger grades and “scaled up” for high school classes.
