Lesson #4: Preparer et Manger un dessert français

Aim: Preparer et Manger un dessert français

Do now: Does anyone know what a crepe is?

-A pancake like food

-a dessert

Step1

Have students go onto a computer in their cooperative learning groups and go to the website:

• Have them read through the website and click on the links about the markets and such in France. Give them a few free minutes to navigate through the site within their groups.
• Have the students ultimately click on the recipe for crêpes link
• This is the recipe that our class used.
• Have each group look over the recipe and discover what ingredients are used, what procedures are used, and how long it will take to cook the crepes. Have each group discuss and takes notes on the recipe and procedure.
• After discussing the recipe, the ingredients, the procedures and quantities of the items needed, the groups need to decide how much to increase the ingredients to make enough crepes for the entire class.

(At this point in the lesson, you might want to collaborate with the math teacher and make the lesson a cross-disciplinary lesson.)

• The groups are then asked to formulate teams in order for this project to work. Give the groups about 5 minutes to discuss this and make a list of the categories they have come up with on the board.

Ultimately the class should be divide up into about 7 groups

1- Set-up team

2- Recorder/Photographer team

3- Prep Team

4- Filling team

5- Cooking team

6- Serving Team

7- Clean up team

The class is then divided up into appropriate teams, and each team is responsible for creating a poster of their team job and all the people included in their team.

(The posters are to be posted on the walls so everyone knows where they should be and what they should be doing)

Step 2

Once the instructions and direction and specific teams are formed and understood, it is now time to use the French crepe recipe: you can check in a French book or magazine as well as a website.  One of the recipes that I used is located at http://boitearecettes.infinit.net/public/boite/crepe/crepe0058.htm

Pre-reading

• Have students identify the type of reading, une recette- a recipe
• What kinds of verb forms are used in this recipe? (commands)
• Discuss the new vocabulary as well as les ustensiles (utensils) needed un fouet (whisk), un grand bol (a large bowl), un petit bol( a small bowl), une poele ( a frying pan)
