Back to the Past
by Tyrese Oliver
On June 18 1985, Tyrese Willamson was born in St. Johns Hospitalin Brooklyn N.Y. Tyrese was a child of 4 years old and, growingup Brooklyn, he always stayed out of trouble and didntreally bother anyone.
He graduated from Franklin K. Lane High Schoolwhere he became apriest and a civil rights leader. While Tyrese was growing up, hewas always being bothered with by white gangs and white policeofficers. So one day he went to his mother and asked how was herlife growing up and did she get bothered by white people.
So his mother told him to sit down and she told him how she hadto deal with a lot of racial things like going to separate schooland eating and using different bathroom and riding in the back ofthe bus.
And his mother also explained that was the reason for hisfathers death and as he looked at his mothers faceshe was really hurt and had tears in her eyes. Tyrese then askedhow he died and his mother told him that he was killed by someracist cops for no reason.
Tyrese just sat there and thought how badly his family must havefelt. So then he asked who were his ancestors and his motherlooked at him told him to get the family tree poster which wasvery very old. It illustrates his family.
So he asked about one ancestor and his mom told him shedoesnt really know much but she knows that his greatgreat grand parents were slaves and both were killed byslaveowners for escaping and freeing others.
So after that conversation with his mother he thought about whattheir conversation and how lucky he was. However, he still wishesto go back in time and stop all the racist actions.
So later on that night he went to bed when he had a strangedream. When he woke up from his room, he didnt know wherehe was at. He had on old clothes which only covered his privateparts. He looked around and he finally realized that he was inthe past and he had gone back to when his ancestors were alive.
Tyrese was hiding behind a big bush when he saw two horses withslave dragged behind them. Tyrese ran as far as he could. He cameup to a small desertered town with a few building. He stood inthe middle of the buildings when 3 white guys pulled out guns. One was Master Basten, a mean old scary man.
So Master Basten asked who he was and did he have a free pass.Tyrese calmly said his name and then said he doesnt knowwhat that was so Master Basten order the two white men to whipTyrese until he told them who he was.
After being whipped a couple of times he screamed out his name,Tyrese
Willamson, several times. MasterBasten told the men to leave him there and go back to theirplantation. Tyrese then was adopted byt a slave family. As hebecame older, he tried to not forget that he has a family in thefuture and he wanted to go back to the future.
But he couldnt and he didnt know why. He didnteven know how he got back to the past. So he decided he wouldstay because he thought that if he stayed he can meet hisancestors, but the only problem was that he did not know how theylooked. Tyrese decided he would make friends with other slavesbefore he goes back.
He wasnt from this time. So one dayafter working all day and night in the field he and a couple ofhis friends were bored and watned t o do something. Tyrese showedthem a couple of games like hide and go seek, green light 123,and others.
Tyrese was liked by many people, even Master Basten himself. Soone day Master Basten showed him the hardest working slavefamily. They were called Williamsom,a family of 12, led by EmilyWilliamson, who was the mother, and George Williamson, who wasthe father. They had 10 kids and the oldest was Mary Williamson.
Tyrese Williamson thought his mother's conversation and then knewthat he finally found his ancestors, his great grand uncles andgrand aunts and his great great grandparents. They asked him whatwas his name and he said My name is TyreseWilliamson.
Emily Williamson said Williamson? We all have the same name?" Then she asked who was his mother and he said Mrs. Sarah Williamson. Emily said, "I dont know who that is but you can show me her someday.
Tyrese grinned and said, "Nah, I cant do that."
Emily asked, Why not?
Tyrese answered, "Its a long story."
So a few years went by and Tyrese became a part of the Williamsonfamily. He showed them lots of things that were not even inventedyet like how to make things like paper planes, boats, andletters. He showed Ms. Williamson how to cook rice and bake cakesand Mr. Williamson how to play sports; he was really helpful.
UOne day he sat down with Mrs. Williamson and finally told hissecret. He told her that he was really a part of her family andthat his mother is Sarah Williamson, the great-grand-daughter ofMary Williamson, your daughter. Im from the future. I wasborn in 1985 and your great-grand-daughter will have my mother in1969 on May 14, 1969 to be exact.
Mrs. Emily Williamson laughed and laughed. She said,"You are not serious."
"I was sent to back to the past for two reasons. One to meet my ancestors and two stop slavery," said Tyrese. So as Tyrese got older, he tried to teach black people how to read and write. And he also taught all people their rights.
But when Master Basten found out about this he beat Tyrese untilhe was almost dead. But that didnt stop Tyrese. He keptteaching black people their rights, and they got smarter andsmarter. And every time he taught someone he got whipped.
On a sunny day in 1859, Mrs. Emi;ey Williamson & GeorgeWilliamson were killed by to white slave guards. They were neverfreed. In 1863 slaves won their freedom and Tyrese felt he hadhelped his family.
After all this Tyrese finally woke up the next day in his bed inthe future and he looked around. He jumped up and called hismother, Mommy, Mommy.
Sarah answered, What?"
Ma Im back!
You're back?
"Yeah, I went to past. I went back to when your great- great grandparents were alive..
His mother looked at him and laughed and said you must have had abad dream. He argued with her that he really went back and thathe got whipped and he can show the scars.
When he went to show her his scars, they were gone as if henever had been whipped. Mrs. Williamson told him to go back tobed and relax because he was acting really strange.
Mrs. Willaimson calmly told him to relax again and she will godown to fix breakfast. Tyrese lay back down and wondered why hecouldnt prove he went back in time. Then he thought itprobably was a dream, and it could have been his imaginationplaying with him.
So later on that day after eating breakfast, Tyrese asked his momwho was his grandfather and Mrs. Willaimson angrily said shedoesnt know and Tyrese laughed and said he does it was awhite man by name of Francis Basten. The son of Master Basten.Mrs. Sarah didnt believe him and asked how could hepossibly know that. Tyrese said I told you I went back in time.
So Mrs. Williamson said do you have proof that Francis Basten ismy dad and your grandfather. Yes, he lives today in Minnesotta. So Tyrese and his mother took a trip to Francis Basten house tosee if he was Mrs. Williamson father.
He took a blood test and it proved that he was clearly the fatherof me and Sarah and that showed that racism should not existtoday.
