Lesson Plan Music Connection

Curriculum (Content Area) Music Grade-Level Span: 3-5 PURPOSE (OBJECTIVE): Students will know, sing and understand the relationship between music and other cultures. DESCRIPTION (SUMMARY OF PLAN): The students will be introduced to the music of Mexican mariachi and other popular Mexican dance music through the use of the software "Inspiration," singing, playing and performing. They will work collaboratively in groups of five to create an iMovie of their live performance.

ACTIVITIES	NETS PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
The students will use the software "Inspiration" to explore, identify, and listen to examples of the Mexican mariachi music. -Investigate the kinds of instruments used by the mariachi. -Search the web for pictures of the instruments. - Experience other popular Mexican dance music.	#1, 6, and 7
The students will learn to sing the song "Cielito Lindo"
The students will learn the song "La Cucaracha" on the bells.
The students will make an iMovie of a live performance of "Cielito Lindo" and "La Cucaracha" dressed in typical Mexican attire.	#1, 5, and 8

-The students will be able to define "mariachi," and name at least two instruments used by mariachi

-The students will sing "Cielito Lindo"

-The students will perform "La Cucaracha" on the bells.

-The students will make an iMovie of their performance.

A rubric will be used to evaluate the iMovie
