Arthur’s Eyes

Objective:
The students will use a variety of media and technology resources for directed and independent learning activities.
Overview:
Arthur feels proud of his new eyeglasses-that is, until he wears them to school! Arthur’s trying experience is a fun learning experience for all.
Materials required:
Fish eyes (one for each student), craft materials and tag board, the book Arthur’s Eyes by Marc Brown, glue, scissors, crayons, pencils and a computer online with a printer.

Knowledge-.The students will read the story Arthur’s Eyes and make K-W-L chart about what they know about eyes, what they want to find out about eyes and in the end, what they have learned about eyes. |
Comprehension- The students will label the parts of an eye. The students will also construct a graph on which they record various eye colors of the students that are in their class.

Application- Give each student a fish eye. Allow them to explore and examine their specimen. After this is done orally discuss the parts of an eye. |
Analysis- The students will examine the eyes of different animals and compare them by size, color and shape. The students will chart display of the animals that have similar formations. |

Synthesis-The students will create personalized eyeglasses. Using a variety of arts and crafts materials, have students decorate tag board eyeglass cutouts to their liking. Invite students to wear their creations for activities requiring "extra concentration." |
Technology Connection- |
Extension:
Invite a local eye doctor do an in school field trip with your class. Have him/her explain the significance of our eyes and their structure. Have the students to already have questions ready to ask the doctor.
Home Learning:
The students will make a make a flip book explaining ways that we can take care of our eyes.
Evaluation:
Have the students will answer teacher made comprehension question from the book Arthur’s Eyes.
