Description

Grade-Levels 3-8

iRead, iWrite, iMovie2 is a project that will provide rich literary experiences, which will become stories, scripts and eventually, movies. Learners will create authentic masterpieces, becoming producers in their own right. Learners will select two pieces of literature from their reading assignments as part of their Comprehensive Reading Plan, and will write about each story using the writing process. One of the pieces will be turned into a script, and an iMovie created. Learners will be placed in collaborative groups of five in different "Guilds," i.e., Directors, Producers, Choreographers, Cameramen, and Actors. They will meet daily using a center approach to discuss and make decisions regarding their job assignment for the movie. The iMovie will be viewed and judged by their peers using a rubric. The following lessons will provide learning experiences and build specific skills for this project.

Purpose

Through the commitment of teachers, learners and parents, this project will enthusiastically embark learners on a journey into the realm of movie making; consequently opening a new world of experiences with the end result of creating a love for reading and writing.

The students will read an excerpt of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, or a book of his choice and write examples of cause and effect using a worksheet. They will also have to determine if there is a chain reaction.
