This
project, in its entirety, is to be carried out in a school year (nine months.)
It incorporates many content area disciplines – science, social study,
art, literacy/reading/writing, math, research, and technology.
The teacher uses an inquiry-based learning approach that allows students
to take charge of what they are about to learn.
The content and direction of the research emerges from the children
themselves. They are encouraged to
engage in peer collaboration and cooperative learning.
Much effort and emphasis will be placed in integrating computer
technology into the curriculum throughout the project.
At the completion of the project, students will be familiar with using
the computer and other technology tools to assist their learning and to produce
the outcome of their learning.
After being
introduced to the theme of the project – “Animal Life in the Ocean” and
the related environmental connections of the study, students will be introduced
to the computer and some other technology tools.
They will be given the opportunity to learn how to use the
state-of-the-art technology available to them.
Students will learn to do research using the Internet, and learn to
compile their research findings and display their final project presentations
using the computer and many other technology hardware and software.
In addition, students will use traditional literacy book resources.
This
project-description is broken down into units, each with its specific lesson
plans. These units are designed as
connected units. Lessons are built
upon one another. Therefore, you
may find it helpful that they be carried out in consecutive order.
The time frame of each lesson plan can be flexible at the discretion of
each teacher depending on the progress and competency of his/her students.
