Tips for Teachers

Possible cooperative learning techniques:

1.      Children can work in interest groups.

2.      Buddy learning teams (children partner for activities.)

3.      Peer tutors – upper graders assisting individuals and/or small groups with a specific task or project.

4.      Group share sessions – small groups reporting back to the class on the progress of their explorations.

 

Possible extensions of Sea Life Units:

Create a class fund raising project to:

1.      Adopt a whale.

2.      Adopt a manatee.

 

Possible target questions:

1.      Why is it important to learn about sea life?

2.      Is there a relationship between our lives and the lives of sea animals?

3.      How do sea animals effect our lives?

4.      How do we effect the lives of sea animals?

5.      What types of animals live in the sea?

6.      Are all animals in the sea fish?

7.      What animal groups do sea animals belong to? (i.e. mammals, fish, etc.)

8.      What are the characteristics of a particular sea life animal group?

9.      What does “endangered” mean?

10.  What ocean animals are endangered?

11.  What does pollution mean?

12.  How are our oceans becoming polluted?

13.  How does pollution effect the plant and animal life in the ocean?
