Lesson 3 – Review and Focus: (Two Sessions)

 

Objectives:

  1. To have students review what they have learned about animal life in the ocean.

  2. To have students reflect on their experience in doing research using different media and at different resource sites.

  3. To have students select specific area of study.

  4.  To have students reflect on their experience in using the computer and the Internet.

  5. To have students start compiling their project study portfolio.

 

Materials:

·        A word processing software.

·        A digital camera.

·        Computer(s).

·        A projector (to project computer screen images for enhancement of computer software mini-lessons.)

 

Procedures:

Session 1 & 2 – Review, reflect and record

·        Discuss and share what students have learned about sea-life/ocean animals.

·        Discuss and share students’ experience in doing research using different media.

·        Discuss and share students’ experience in using the computer and the Internet.

·        Conduct a mini-lesson of a computer word processing program (Student Writing Center, AppleWorks, or Microsoft Word, etc.).

·        Let students take turns transcribing their journal entries regarding their learning experience thus far using the word processing program and save them onto a disk/folder.

 

(Reflections and discussions can be conducted in small group settings and students will take turns using the computer and doing their journal entries throughout the two sessions.)

 

Competency/Evaluation:

·        Students will have a clear picture of what they have learned about sea-life.

·        Students will be able to reflect on their experience in doing research and using computers and other technology tools.

·        Students will be able to articulate verbally as well as in writing what they have learned so far and how they feel about doing research and using technology tools.

·        Students will be able to use word-processing software and transcribe their hand written journals and/or notes onto the computer.

·        Students will have started a research portfolio.
