Aim: What are the major landforms in Africa?

Materials:  Ask Mrs. Peluso for a copy of "Geography" or go to Africa Map,  one copy of Can You Guess the Landforms of Africa?  for each student.

Motivation:  You are going on a trip to Africa.  What would you pack in your suitcase? Create a web of all responses given. 

Here is a sample of what your web should look like:
 

• Think about what you already know about Africa.  What landforms do you think you will find in Africa?
  Look at your map, color the desert regions yellow, the rainforest regions dark green, and the grassland regions light green.
• Give each student a copy of Can You Guess the Landforms of Africa? Next to each picture, predict what each landform is.
• Find information on each landform and write a brief paragraph describing each, using the following sites:

Extensions: Write a story describing an adventure you had using one of the three regions as your setting.  Download pictures from  http://library.thinkquest.org/16645/gallery/sievers_gallery.html  and create a postcard describing a trip taken to one of the three regions.
